Niamey, Niger Republic - Soldiers in Niger Republic announced a coup on national television late Wednesday, July 26.
BBC reported they had dissolved the constitution, suspended all institutions, and closed the nation's borders.
Niger Republic coup: "President Mohamed Bazoum's regime has come to an end"
One of the rebel soldiers, Lieutenant Colonel Amadou Abdramane, said:

“We, the defence and security forces have decided to put an end to the regime of President Bazoum."
Abdramane continued:
"All external partners are asked not to interfere. Land and air borders are closed until the situation has stabilised."
He added a night curfew would take effect from 22:00 until 05:00 local time until further notice.
Furthermore, the mutinying troops stated that “all institutions” in the country would be suspended.
President Bazoum's whereabouts were not immediately clear.
The coup against Bazoum has come on the back of efforts by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to broker a peaceful resolution to the Niger crisis, a report by TRT Afrika noted.
Tension as guards detain Niger President Bazoum
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Bazoum was detained by guards inside the presidential palace in Niamey following an “ultimatum” by the army.
Sources said disgruntled members of the Presidential Guard sealed off access to the president’s residence and offices, adding that the guards “refused to release the president” after talks broke down.
President Bola Tinubu reacts to Niger Republic coup
In a piece of related news, Legit.ng reported that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President of Nigeria and chairman, ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, on Wednesday, July 26, described the developments in Niger Republic as “unpleasant”.
Tinubu said the leadership of the ECOWAS region and all lovers of democracy globally would not tolerate such a situation.
