Despite criticisms by some neighbouring countries, Ghanaian president, Nana Akufo-Addo has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to expedite the process of reopening the closed borders because of its effect on the economy.

The Nigeria Customs Service on Monday, January 13, disclosed that it has shortlisted 162,399 candidates for an aptitude test. Joseph Attah, the spokesperson for the service disclosed this in a statement.

The Nigerian Customs officers who teamed up with Police personnel stormed the commercial border town main market around 11 am and raided many shops and stores.

It was a black day for the Nigeria Customs Service as it announced on Tuesday, December 17, that armed men attacked and killed two of its officers who were on patrol along the Lokoja-Okene road.

The investigation by the committee followed a public hearing held on Monday, December 16, by the committee after a query by Nigeria's auditor-general office on the services' finances.

Bashir Ahmad, the personal assistant to the president on new media has dismissed a report by a Nigeria newspaper which claimed that the Nigeria Customs Service was planning to open its portal for the recruitment of 3,200 officers.

Despite calls for the reopening of land borders, President Muhammadu Buhari, said his administration has not decided on the time when the ban would be lifted.

In efforts to curb corruption in the service, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), has threatened to sack any officer who is living above his or her remuneration.

A report has revealed that Nigeria's borders will now be reopened on January 31, 2020 following an approval on the date by President Muhammadu Buhari.
