President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, June 10, maintained that the Fulani herdsmen attacking farmers across the country with AK-47 are not of Nigerian origin.

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on Nigerian governors to rise and carry out their primary responsiblity of fixing security issues in their various states.

Fulani heads in Oke-Ogun have condemned the killing of innocent people in Igangan area of Oyo state on Sunday, June 6, blaming security agents for the incident.

No fewer than ten persons were reportedly killed in Igangan in Ibarapa North local government area of Oyo state when scores of suspected herdsmen attacked.

The chairman of Oyo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun, General Kunle Togun (rtd), has alleged foreign Fulani herdsmen have invaded Southwest forests.

The Southern Governors Forum has reiterated its ban on open grazing across southern Nigeria, adding that no land will be ceded to invaders posing as herdsmen.

Abdulrazak Hamzat, an Abuja-based activist has said open grazing should be banned all over Nigeria by the federal government, saying the practice is outdated.

The apex body of Fulani herders, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has backed the southern governors on ban of open grazing.

The spokesman for the group, Saleh Alhassan said the pastoralists in southern Nigeria won't comply with the recent directive of the Southern Governors Forum.
