ASUU Strike In Nigeria

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Education Institutions have suspended their strike actions.

The hope of many Nigerians that the ongoing ASUU strike would end this week may have been dashed as the union has said there is no end in sight to the crisis.

Tuesday’s meeting between the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government has again ended without an agreement.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities will not receive salaries for the days they were off work due to a strike, the Federal Government has said.

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) pledged its committment to call off the 183 days long strike should FG meet its demand today.

The minister of education, Adamu Adamu on Thursday, August 18, denied a claim by ASUU that the FG has agreed to the UTAS payment platform for all lecturers.

Again, the minister of education, Adamu Adamu has called on Nigerian students to drag the Academic Staff Union of Universities to court for wasting their time.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu on Thursday said it is the responsibility of ASUU to compensate students for the time wasted not the Federal Government.

President Muhammadu Buhari has again appealed to ASUU to call off its 6 months old strike as it is killing Nigeria's human capital and negotiation has gone far.
