Goodluck Jonathan's Message To Super Eagles

Goodluck Jonathan's Message To Super Eagles

President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan has urged the Super Eagles to shine at the 2014 FIFA World Cup saying that the team "cannot afford to disappoint the nation".

The President's message was delivered to the Eagles in São Paulo by the Federal Government’s delegation leader and Senate head David Mark, The Nation reports.

Jonathan insisted that football unites Nigerians "in the face of our current national challenges". According to the country leader good performance of the team will help to recreate a new image of the great Nigeria.

President urged Keshi's men to focus on "the main objective of bringing the cup home to make Nigeria and Africa proud" and specifically called on the team to kick off with the win in the game against Iran, which is to be held tomorrow, June 16.

"You must keep the resilient Nigerian spirit with you, be patriotic in exhibiting your prowesses and go the extra mile to bring the cup home. Nigerians are eagerly waiting to celebrate you when you come home with the cup."

The Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi in response promised that they would do everything possible to make Nigeria proud and once again claimed that his team is ready for the tournament.

The whole country is looking forward to the Nigerian footballers' first game in the Mundial. Numerous celebrities have already expressed their support to the Super Eagles, and more than 300 Nigerians departed to Brazil several days ago to fan for the team right at the venue.
