Newcastle Triumph Over Mourinho's Chelsea

Newcastle United provided an immediate response to their derby defeat to Sunderland as they denied Chelsea a fifth consecutive Premier League victory, running out 2-0 winners at St James’ Park.

John Terry saw his header hit the woodwork in a first half that proved to be as dull as the Tyneside weather, before proceedings improved after the break when Petr Cech was at his best to deny both Moussa Sissoko and Loic Remy.

However, the Chelsea goalkeeper was left powerless when Yoan Gouffran stooped lowest to head in Yohan Cabaye’s free-kick with 22 minutes to go.

Willian and Samuel Eto’o saw chances of a late equaliser go begging before Remy put the result beyond doubt when his crashing left-footed shot found the net off the inside of the post.
