Money Was Not The Reason We Lost Against France - Oshaniwa

Super Eagles left back going into Brazil did not expect to start but a sudden injury to Echieghiele pushed the combative defender into the starting position.

Well he came out and told of his joy of featuring in the World Cup and giving an impressive display and also told Vanguard reporters that the team did not lose to France due to bonus rows.

He first started off by clearing the air about the bonus money: “That’s not true; we did our best. It’s an issue I will not like to speak further on.”

He was also talking about the unfortunate injury to AS Monaco’s Elderson Echiejile, saying: “I felt very bad when my friend (Echiejile) sustained an injury in a friendly match few days to the kick-off of the World Cup.”

“But from then, I knew a huge task was now on me to play at the left-back position. So, I had no choice but to encourage myself and believe in my abilities.

The Israel-based player has been said to be attracting interests from clubs around Europe. Oshaniwa told more about the interest which was being shown.

He said: “I am happy at Ashdod; they are a nice club, the fans love me and I am still their player. I just want to have my rest after playing at the World Cup. I am just focused on helping Ashdod win titles."

Nigeria 2-0 defeat in the LAST16 match vs France was alleged to have been caused by the bonus row between the players and NFF officials 3 days before the game. It got so out of hand that by the second day, the players had refused to train and sat out a day.

It had been widely believed that the players on the eve one day ahead the match of their lives refused to sleep and were fighting for the money after President Goodluck Jonathan personally made an intervention to avoid the boys from further embarrassing the country's image on the world stage.

Oshaniwa is a former Sharks of Port Harcourt player and now plays for FC Ashdod of Israel. However, he is now highly sought after by some French clubs, according to sources.
