Punishments Man City Could Face As Hearing Into 115 Charges Concludes
- Manchester City are waiting for a verdict after the hearing on their alleged breaches of financial rules was concluded
- The hearing started in September, more than a year after the unprecedented 115 charges against the club came to light
- Man City could face serious consequences, including expulsion from the Premier League or a points deduction
The hearing into Manchester City's alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations has completed, and a decision is likely in the coming months.
The high-profile case took place at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London from September 16 to December 6.
Manchester City has won the last four league titles, but the team faces severe penalty if found guilty.
What are Man City accused of?
The Premier League charged Man City in February 2023 with breaking financial rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018, per Sky Sports. The club allegedly refused to provide accurate financial information.
The 2023 Champions League winners are also accused of refusing to comply with Premier League investigations.
54 of the 115 allegations are for the club's inability to present correct financial reports between 2009 and 2018. 35 allegations stem from their alleged reluctance to comply with league investigations between December 2018 and February 2023, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Man City have vehemently denied all allegations, which, if proven, could have serious repercussions for the club.
Head coach Pepe Guardiola has insisted they are innocent until proven guilty.
Possible punishments Man City could face
Sky Sports reports that everything is on the line. Punishments include points deductions, fines, and even expulsion from the Premier League.
The report also lists that the independent commission could recommend that the games be replayed, order compensation, cancel or refuse player registration, or order the club to pay costs, among other punishments.
Once a ruling has been made, Manchester City can appeal, but the case cannot go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
An appeal could delay the implementation of sanctions. Experts have said the appeal could take months.
No team has ever been expelled from the English top flight, and it would be an unprecedented move if Man City were expelled.
Guardiola almost attacked by a fan
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was almost attacked in the streets of Manchester by a fan when walking in the company of his son.
The Spaniard has won six Premier League titles in England but the 2024/25 season is not going as expected for the Citizens, causing some aggrieved fans to turn on him.
