Manchester United were off to a quick start as Marcus Rashford poked the ball home inside the first 90 seconds after a lung-bursting run from Amad Diallo.

However, news broke in the 37th minute when it emerged that the game was being played without the assistance of the Video Assistant Referee. Match referee Anthony Taylor was spotted relaying the information to the two team captains, Bruno Fernandes and Sam Morsy.

Why VAR was disabled during Ipswich vs Manchester United

Match commentators explained that a fire had been reported at Stockley Park, the building where the VAR is domiciled, and thus, the VAR had been temporarily disabled.

The Premier League confirmed the same through their official social media handles.

The fourth official asked the two coaches if they wished to continue without VAR, to which they both agreed.

VAR was restored shortly after Omari Hutchinson scored a stunner via a slight deflection to restore parity for the hosts. Luckily for Taylor, no controversial incident could have required VAR intervention during the outage.

The game ended with both sides settling for a point apiece despite decent chances on both ends.

True to his word, he went with his 3-4-3 formation, with Amad Diallo being utilised as a wingback. Rasmus Hojlund was left on the bench as Marcus Rashford was preferred up top.
