Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has delivered a worrying update on his star forward Cole Palmer after their game against Manchester United.

Palmer was left in a heap after a bad challenge from Lisandro Martinez late in the game. Despite the VAR checking the incident, the Argentine defender escaped with only a yellow card.

Palmer was spotted struggling to walk, but he left the pitch without assistance after applauding the travelling fans.

Martinez's boot brushed his knee after he had pulled off a sublime skill to get away from the former Ajax defender.

The video of Palmer limping left Chelsea fans worried, given his impact in the last year.

Chelsea boss provides Cole Palmer's injury update

Speaking after the game, Maresca admitted that Martinez should have been sent off. The Italian was also optimistic that Palmer hadn't suffered a serious injury.

"He was in the changing room with ice. We are waiting now. Hopefully, it is nothing," he said as quoted by Football London.

Why Lisandro Martinez wasn't sent off vs Chelsea

The Premier League quickly explained why VAR didn't recommend that Martinez be sent off by referee Rob Jones.

"VAR checked for a potential red card and confirmed the referee’s call of no red card, deeming that it was a reckless challenge and not serious foul play."

Palmer will have the luxury of a full week's rest to monitor his situation. Chelsea's next game is a Conference League tie against Noah - a competition Palmer isn't registered for. Maresca will be hopeful he will be back in time for the London derby against Arsenal next weekend.

United respond to claims Casemiro left at substitution

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag has addressed rumours that Casemiro left Old Trafford at halftime after being substituted on September 1.

Ten Hag refuted these claims, stating that he saw the midfielder in the dressing room after the game.

The Dutch manager also elaborated on his decision to substitute the £60 million star
