Ruud van Nistelrooy speaks after ten Hag's firing
Ahead of their clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, the Dutchman shared his thoughts on the role and Ten Hag's sacking.
"Erik ten Hag brought me back to Manchester United in the summer and, while I have only been part of the coaching staff here for a few months, I will always be grateful to him for giving me the opportunity, and I am saddened to see him leave," he said via Manchester Evening News.
"Even on an interim basis, it is a great honour to manage the club I love for however long I am asked to do so."
van Nistelrooy played five seasons at Old Trafford, winning one Premier League title and the Premier League Golden Boot in 2003.
Who will replace Erik ten Hag?
With Man United in talks to hire Ruben Amorim as their permanent coach, van Nistelrooy will likely leave the club, per The Athletic.
The Red Devils were linked with several coaches, including Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate.
It seems the club has settled on Sporting CP coach Amorim who has done brilliantly in Portugal. However, many feel there's risk involved, especially since he is switching from the Portuguese league to the much tougher Premier League.
Guardiola comments on ten Hag's firing
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reacted to Erik ten Hag's dismissal as Man United coach.
The Spanish coach felt sympathy for his colleague, stressing that results matter the most in their job and that anyone can be fired.
