Manchester United players have repeatedly named a coach they would like to see take over if Erik ten Hag is sacked.
The Dutchman is in his third season at Old Trafford, but a poor start to the season has threatened his job.
Several candidates have been mentioned as possible replacements including Thomas Tuchel and ex-England boss Gareth Southgate.
Erik ten Hag reportedly has two games to save his job. The Europa League encounter against FC Twente and Sunday's Premier League clash against Aston Villa.
According to Metro Sport, Man United players prefer Ten Hag's assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy to take the role if his compatriot is fired.
The former Red Devils striker arrived at the club in the summer and has served as PSV manager before.
He opened up on his return, adding that he wanted to be a coach.
"I felt a strong feeling I want to help build United, little by little, to where we feel and know the club should be. I know, I was on a managerial track," he said. "I was at PSV, it was an unbelievable experience, via Manchester Evening News.
Van Nistelrooy scored 150 goals for the 20-time English champions and won one Premier League title.
He could be thrown on the hot seat if Erik ten Hag leaves in the coming weeks.
