Erik ten Hag Names One Player Who Could Be Influential for Man United This Season
- Manchester United have struggled to compete in the Premier League since they won it in 2013
- This season, they started with two defeats, including a humiliating home loss to Liverpool before the break
- Erik ten Hag has picked one player he believes will play a key role this season as they try to produce a better season
Manchester United started the season poorly but steadied the ship following two convincing wins against Southampton and Barnsley.
The Red Devils suffered a humiliating defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford, putting Erik Ten Hag's job at risk.
The Dutchman has named one player who could play a pivotal role this season following their 7-0 thumping of Barnsley.
The 20-time Premier League champions had a dreadful 2023/24 campaign despite winning the FA Cup.
Most of their prominent players, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, struggled to make an impact and received intense criticism as a result.
Who will be Man United's difference maker?
The former Ajax boss said Rashford could be decisive this season following his brace against the League One club in the Carabao Cup.
"The goals not only have to come from Marcus Rashford," Ten Hag said via Manchester Evening News. "We need more goalscorers but I know from my first season here when he scores then it's [easier] for the team when you have a player in your squad who is a guarantee for goals."
"Then it can make the difference. You can do a lot of things very good between the boxes, but football matches are decided in the box."
Rashford has now scored three goals in two games after failing to find the net in six months. The England international scored 30 goals in Erik ten Hag's first season and will be looking to get back to that form this campaign.
Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez, and Rasmus Hojlund are other player fans will be looking at.
Andre Onana lauds Rashford
Legit.ng earlier reported that Man United goalkeeper Andre Onana praised Rashford after his goal against Southampton.
The Cameroon goalkeeper admitted Rashford's struggles last season and said he was happy he got back in the goals.
