EPL Legend Calls Bruno Fernandes a Diva, Advises Club to Drop Him As Captain

Bruno Fernandes is arguably Manchester United's best player, but many pundits and fans are always enraged by his behaviour on the pitch.

Erik ten Hag handed the Portuguese star the armband, but former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit feels he should be stripped of the captaincy.

The Premier League winner feels Fernandes is "always crying" and "acts like a diva" when he's on the field.

Fernandes has been ever-present in the team since joining the club in January 2020 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Man United have depended on the former Sporting Lisbon star to create chances for the team, and when he isn't playing, the team struggles to perform.

Although many pundits and fans agree that he is a valuable player, some feel his histrionics on the pitch make him dislikable.

Since arriving at the club, he has made 237 appearances and registered 79 goals and 67 assists, per Transfermarkt.

Should Man United drop Fernandes as captain?

Petit is among the many former players who are not impressed with Fernandes' behaviour on the field. He says the attacking midfielder highlights the club's issues.

“For me, Bruno Fernandes is a player that highlights the problems at Manchester United,” Petit told topoffshorebooks.com via Football365. “He’s a good player, but most of the time, I don’t like the way he behaves on the pitch. He acts like a diva. He doesn’t help or encourage his teammates when the chips are down."

The World Cup winner added that his antics are a problem for his teammates. He suggested that the forward give Kobbie Mainoo the armband instead.

“When Manchester United are suffering, he’s always crying; always showing his disappointment...Mainoo is young, but he’s English. He’s establishing himself in the national team. He’s the pride of the fans at Old Trafford."

Fernandes and Man United have made a poor start to the season. They have lost two of their first three matches, including a 3-0 loss at Old Trafford before the international break.

Erik ten Hag is under pressure, and some feel he is on thin ice.

Kipchoge picks Fernandes as favourite player

Legit.ng earlier reported that Kipchoge named his favourite Manchester United player after his visit.

The legendary athlete interacted with the club's players and later said captain Bruno Fernandes was his favourite.
