Rio Ferdinand Reacts to Ugandans Showing Love to Andre Onana and Man United

Manchester United fans in Uganda came out in full force to support Andre Onana, who was representing Cameroon against Zimbabwe.

The fans, rocking the famous red Man United jersey, chanted Onana's name during the AFCON qualifier at Namboole stadium.

During the 2025 AFCON qualifier, thousands of fans, carrying banners, relentlessly chanted Onana's name.

Despite the strong support, Cameroon was held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Zimbabwe and now has four points from their opening two matches in Groupo J, the same as Kenya, which beat Namibia.

After the match, there were wild scenes outside the stadium as a horde of fans tried to catch a glimpse of the Man United goalkeeper.

Under heavy security, Onana was whisked away from the stadium using private transportation separate from the team bus, according to a video shared on X by journalist Clive Kyazze.

Onana will be in goal when Man United face Southampton on Saturday. They will be aiming to bounce back from their painful loss to Liverpool before the international break.

Ferdinand, who won multiple Premier League titles with Man United, reposted Daily Monitor's video of Ugandan fans chanting Onana's name.

He shared it with the caption "Love this" with the Ugandan and Cameroonian flags. The goalkeeper thanked Ugandan fans for their support on his Instagram story.

"Thank you for the warm welcome. I would have liked to spend more time with all of you. See you next month in Uganda."

The Indomitable Lions will face Kenya in Uganda in their third Groupo J match, seeking to take control of the group with a win.

Man United fans in Uganda recently held prayers before the 2024/25 season started and later organized a feast after the club beat Fulham in their opening match.

Onana outwitted by Haaland

Legit.ng earlier reported that Andre Onana's penalty showdown with Manchester City's Erling Haaland in the Community Shield ended badly.

He tried a psychological trick by pointing to one side of the goal, signalling where he thought Haaland should aim.
