Sterling and Three Other Chelsea Players Dropped From Conference League Squad
- The writing is seemingly on the wall for Raheem Sterling after he was dropped for a second successive game
- Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is currently preparing his side, who make their Conference League bow on Thursday
- The Blues will need to get past Servette from Switzerland in order to qualify for the league stages of the competition
Raheem Sterling has been dropped from a Chelsea matchday squad for the second time in a row by new boss Enzo Maresca.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that the England international is not part of Maresca's long-term vision at the club.
Will Raheem Sterling leave Chelsea?
The most experienced player in the current Chelsea squad was a conspicuous absentee in their opening Premier League game against Manchester City. His representatives put out a statement just a few minutes before the Stamford Bridge clash, vowing to 'seek clarity' from the club.
Maresca is grappling with an oversized squad, as he currently has at least 40 first-team players. He is, however, believed to be only working with a reduced number as the rest train under a different coach as they await potential loan moves or permanent transfers.
Sterling's situation could become bleaker in the coming days as the club prepares to complete the signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.
Four Chelsea players dropped from Conference League clash
As reported by the BBC, other players dropped from the first leg of the Conference League game include Wesley Fofana, Ben Chilwell and Tosin Adarabioyo. The Blues welcome Swiss side Servette, with the winner of the double-legged tie qualifying for the league stage.
Chilwell has already been informed that he is not part of Maresca's plans. It is important to note that these players can be named in the group-stage squad should Chelsea get there.
Chelsea players dropped from Manchester City clash
Legit.ng had earlier reported that four Chelsea players had been omitted from the matchday program for their game against Manchester City.
Conor Gallagher, Romelu Lukaku, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Armando Broja were not included in the program despite still being Chelsea players then.
Gallagher has since secured a move to Atletico Madrid, while Broja is set to complete a loan switch to Ipswich Town.
