Wilson Sey wants GPL referees to be bold in decisions
The man in the centre of the Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko’s game at the Accra Sports Stadium 15 years ago, retired referee Jacob Wilson Sey says the current generation of referees are not bold to take intuitive decisions during epic matches.

Referee Sey came under harsh criticism for allowing Hearts’ goal scored by striker Ishmael Addo which many Kotoko fans thought was an offside goal to stand to draw Hearts of Oak level after Lawrence Adjei had put Kotoko ahead. They claimed he snubbed his assistant referee's offside signal and allowed Hearts back into the game.
Angry fans tore plastics seats and threw them onto the pitch in protest of the Cape Coast based referee's decision.
Sey told StarrFM his decision was right and that referees needed to be bold and apt in their decisions. He said, “I think this era of referees are doing well but their boldness is questionable because some of us never depended on officials for anything and that made [us] gain respect.”
