New Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa has announced his arrival at the helm of Kenyan football with the sacking of Harambee Stars head coach Bobby Williamson and the appointing of Stanley Okumbi as his replacement.
Okumbi has been appointed on interim basis as the federation seeks an ideal replacement for Williamson who has been asked to step aside as issues with his contract are being looked into.

Speaking of the appointment, Mwendwa defended the decision saying that the federation wants to give young coaches a chance to manage the national team. He also said the federation will stand by and with the new technical bench as they seek to raise the standards of soccer in the country.

According to Mwendwa, Williamson was shown the door because of his contract which was signed by the previous regime and which he said had issue.
This comes after Tuko.co.ke reported that the federation owes the Scottish over KSh30 million in arrears ever since he left Gor Mahia to manage the national team.
Mwendwa had revealed that former FKF President Sam Nyamweya had hinted to him that Williamson was yet to receive the money. He, however, promised that the money would be paid.

The decision to place him at the helm has, however, drawn mixed reactions from Kenyans. While some are welcoming the move, others believe Mwendwa’s reign has started on a bad not.
It remains to be seen whether Okumbi will help bring sanity to the national team which has performed poorly over the past few seasons.
