Morata sealed the three points just after halftime. Niguez supplied the assist again with a superb cross, which was comfortably turned in by Morata, per 90min.

Atletico are now fifth on the table with 10 points from five games, while Real Madrid are third with 15 points.

Morata is in his second spell at Atletico after he previously left to join Italian giants Juventus.

In the 2022/23 season, Morata scored 13 La Liga goals in 36 appearances, but he's made a terrific start so far this season. The most league goals he has scored in a league season is 15 in the 2016/17 season for Real Madrid.

Morata has now scored 200 goals in his career. 42 of those have been in Atletico colours.

Morata's message to Mourinho

Morata sending a heartfelt message to AS Roma manager, Jose Mourinho.

The 30-year-old Spaniard was Roma's biggest target this summer, but it seems a deal between the two clubs did not materialize.

“He’s a great coach, he was the one who gave me the opportunity to play my first professional match. I’m very grateful to him and I wish him the best.”

Mourinho, the then Real Madrid manager, gave Morata his debut when he was 18 years old in December 2010.
