Mason Mount Confirms His Exit in Emotional Farewell Video to Chelsea Fans As He Nears Man Utd Move
- Mason Mount has confirmed the decision to leave Chelsea after 18 years
- The midfielder released an emotional video on Instagram saying his farewell to every element of the club
- He will join Manchester United after the two clubs agreed on a £55m fee and £5m in add-ons.
It’s the end of the road as Mason Mount has broken his silence and confirmed the rumours about his decision to quit his boyhood club Chelsea after 18 years.
Mount was one of the eight academy graduates handed their first team debuts by Frank Lampard during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, including Reece James and Tammy Abraham.
He has statistically been the club’s best player since his debut and scored his first goal in the 1-1 draw against Leicester City in the second game of the 2019/20 season.
Sports Brief reported that Manchester United could pay less than the initially said £60m plus add-ons due to the difficult conditions surrounding the bonuses.
Mount bids farewell to Chelsea
It is customary for players to make written statements to say goodbye to a club, but for Mount, who joined Chelsea as a six-year-old boy, he felt the fans deserved to hear directly from him.
He released a video on Instagram confirming the decision, recognising how difficult it must be for the fans, particularly with the situations surrounding his move and his next club.
“Given the speculation over the last six months, this may not come as a surprise to you, but it doesn’t make it any easier to tell you I’ve made the decision to leave Chelsea. I feel you deserve more than just a written statement,” he said.
He played under three permanent managers - Frank Lampard, whom many fans called his father, Thomas Tuchel, under whom he won the Champions League and Graham Potter.
The 24-year-old was a two-time player of the year, having also won the academy player of the year, and he leaves with three trophies - the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and that night in Porto.
Chelsea pride in Reece James
Chelsea took pride in Reece James after the defender responded to a fan teasing a move to Arsenal for him.
The club’s Twitter was quick to brand him ‘One of our own’, aiming a dig at Arsenal and at Mount, an academy star joining a rival club, Manchester United.
