Lionel Messi: Inter Miami Superstar Gets World’s Largest Mural in Santa Fe, Argentina
- Lionel Messi captained Argentina to the 2022 FIFA World Cup victory in Qatar
- It was the final piece of silverware to complete his illustrious career and cement his status
- Messi has been adorned with many monuments to celebrate his achievement in Argentina
Lionel Messi is the recipient of a new mural in his native province of Santa Fe, Argentina, in recognition of his achievements for the country at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The past two years have been marked with tremendous successes with the national team for Messi after years of disappointment in which he lost five finals, including four Copa America.
The former Barcelona captain’s national team career has been rebirthed under former teammate Lionel Scaloni, who took over La Albiceleste after the disappointing 2018 World Cup outing in Russia.
The duo have now led the football-loving nation to three trophies, the last in Qatar, overcoming a first-game loss to Saudi Arabia, which both captain and coach acknowledged spurred the team on, as reported by Reuters.

Messi gets world’s largest mural
Mural artist Andres Iglesias has completed a mural of the 36-year-old, which features a picture of Messi in the home shirt of the country lifting the mundial trophy.
According to News Bulletin 247, it is he largest in the world at 75 metres high and 40 metres wide and gulped 600 litres of paint and 1,000 sprays. It surpasses the previous one of 69 metres tall, situated in Messi’s hometown of Rosario, in the same province.
Iglesias admitted the idea came from a friend who told him to make the world’s largest mural after their triumph in Qatar. It started in March and is now complete.
It will be inaugurated on September 23, and the former Paris Saint-Germain attacker is yet to confirm his presence at the event. However, the artist wishes for the Inter Miami superstar to be there.
NBA stars welcome Messi
NBA stars sent welcome messages to Messi after it was confirmed he is heading to Miami, with Kevin Durant already awaiting his debut.
This comes after controversial British broadcaster and an ally of Cristiano Ronaldo, Piers Morgan, threw shade at the Argentine for moving to the MLS at 35, an age Ronaldo was still in Europe with Juventus.
