The 2022 Men's World Football Team has been revealed by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

As expected, players who impressed at the 2022 World Cup including tournament best player Lionel Messi and Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe starred on the list.

The 2022 dream XI however witnessed a conspicuous absentee in the shape of Al-Nassr's new signing Cristiano Ronaldo, who had a calendar year to forget after an abysmal World Cup and an acrimonious exit at Man United.

What's the composition of the 2022 Team of the Year?

In a 4-3-3 line-up, the back four comprises Morocco right-back Achraf Hakimi and Bayern Munich fullback Alphonso Davies flanking Virgil Van Dijk and Josko Gvardiol of Croatia, per Livesoccertv.

In a slightly unbalanced midfield, the evergreen Luka Modric makes an appearance as well as Kevin De Bruyne and world champion Lionel Messi.

A razor-sharp triumvirate attack features Mbappe, Man City's Erling Haaland and current Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema, Allfootball reports.

Real Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois completes the list as the preferred goalkeeper in between the sticks.

Lionel Messi has been named the 'World's Best Player' for 2022 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Messi crowned an exceptional 2022 in the best possible fashion, winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina while also emerging as the tournament's best player.

He beat competition from PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe, whom Messi beat to the World Cup trophy, and current Ballon d'Or holder Karim Benzema to win the accolade.

The former French international was previously asked to pick between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and he explained why he thought the Portuguese star was better than the Argentinian, Goal reported.
