World Cup 2022: Morocco Players Donate Earnings to Charity

The playing body of the Morocco national team have reportedly pledged to donate their entire World Cup earnings to charity.

Morocco enjoyed a historic World Cup campaign that saw them become the first African country to reach the semi-finals of the quadrennial tournament.

Morocco’s seemingly impermeable defensive record saw them avoid conceding from an opposition player until the semi-finals when eventual finalists France put two past them.

The Atlas Lions kept clean sheets against Croatia and Belgium, conceding an own goal against Canada at the group stage, and then kept Spain and Portugal before succumbing to France.

Moving a notch higher, the entire Moroccan team decided to donate all of their World Cup earnings to poor children and families in Morocco, according to Khaled Beydoun.

How much did Morocco earn?

According to Sportspayouts, they earned a guaranteed prize money of $2.5 million for qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and since finishing 4th in the world cup, they earn $22 million from the prize money of $440 million in 2022.

Rudiger donates World Cup earnings

In a related story, Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has pledged to donate his earnings from the World Cup with Germany to charity in Sierra Leone.

The Atlas Lions beat the 2010 world champions on penalties to advance to the last eight of the tournament.

After the match, the players who were celebrating wildly took a moment to remember Dutch-born Moroccan Abdelhak Nouri.
