Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi recorded his name in the history books on November 22, becoming the first Argentine to score at 4 different World Cup tournaments.

The former Barcelona captain achieved this feat when he scored against Saudi Arabia, in the opening Group C game at the ongoing Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Going into this game, there were serious concerns about the fitness of Messi, but the seven-time Ballon d'Or eventually made the starting lineup and scored.

Messi has won all titles any player can think of in his career at club level, but the Argentine has not lifted the World Cup and will now hope to do so in Qatar.

With the goal against Saudi Arabia, Messi has now scored at the 2006, 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups - which is an incredible record.

The likes of Sergio Aguero and even late Diego Maradona were unable to achieve this success with the Argentina national team.

Messi overtakes Maradona and Gabriel Batistuta in the Argentina history books, after the team's 2022 World Cup opener versus Saudi Arabia.

The Paris Saint-Germain star has overtaken Argentine legends Maradona (1982, 1986 and 1994) and Batistuta (1994, 1998 and 2002), who only managed to score in three tournaments.

Meanwhile, Argentina crashed out in the knockout stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
