DailyMail reports that Pérez originally planned to move the La Liga champions from the Santiago Bernabéu to a club-themed theme park called RealMadridLand. The plans were in place during the 2017-18 season, according to a new book, the publication stated.

Pérez had even met with Disney’s CEO at the time, as he was eager to consult with experts in the field.

Why did Pérez want RealMadridLand?

It's believed that Pérez was worried about Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City’s finances, and was looking to bulk up Madrid’s revenue stream with new means of income.

How far along was RealMadridLand?

Pérez had drawn up the plans already and consulted with Disney executives for advice. It’s believed that he even drew up plans for a Zinedine Zidane roller coaster.

What happened to RealMadridLand?

Plans for the unique theme park fell due to several factors. Among these were concerns that the area designated for the park wasn’t big enough and that more money needed to be budgeted for such an ambitious project.

There were also concerns that other clubs could watch Madrid’s training sessions if their ground was in the middle of a theme park.

After his failure to launch RealMadridLand, Pérez has since turned his attention to forming a European Super League. Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are still pushing for the formation of the breakaway league and have no plans of stopping just yet.

As noted by The Real Champs, those behind the formation of the Super League are restructuring the plans for the tournament, to make it more appealing to big and small clubs. This comes after the original plans were rejected by many for being too elitist.
