Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been placed under police protection in Italy weeks after news broke that he was a target of extortion and intimidation by an armed gang.

The 2018 World Cup winner said in a statement a few weeks ago revealing the astonishing details of how an armed gang allegedly demanding £11 million from him. However, Pogba has reportedly paid £90, 000.

Paul Pogba placed under police protection

The saga involving France and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba took another twist last night after he was placed under police protection in Italy according to Le Parisien.

Paul's mother, Yeo Moriba is also said to be under police protection after reports revealed she was pressured to ask Paul to pay the gang.

A few weeks ago, Pogba revealed that he was a victim of threats and extortion by an armed gang. The World Cup winner reportedly said that his brother Mathias Pogba was part of the gang which also included some of his childhood friends.

Mathias has since made counter claims about his brother, saying he used witchcraft to try to wish injury on international teammate Kylian Mbappe.

Last week, Mathias and three other men were taken into police custody and later arraigned in court over the matter with Mathias fiercely denying the allegations through social media.

Mathias Pogba denies involvement in extortion plot

Legit.ng earlier reported on 32-year-old Mathias Pogba released a video denying the allegations that he was part of the gang.

Mathias also made staggering allegations about his brother Paul, saying he sought services of a witch intending to place an injury curse on France international Kylian Mbappe.

Mathias was taken into custody a few days ago before being arraigned in court. With the 2022 World Cup edging close, this saga threatens to derail France preparations.
