Sad Day In Football As Former Barcelona Star Dies In Car Crash Alongside His Twin Brother

Former Barcelona star Maxi Rolon died on Saturday, May 14, at the age of 27 following a car accident, the club has confirmed.
According to reports, the former Argentine under-20 star passed away alongside his twin footballer elder brother Ariel who was also in the car.

It was gathered that the accident occurred after the Fiat Punto they were travelling in lost control on a bend before smashing into a tree.
Goal and The Sun report that the accident happened on the main road between the towns of Pujato and Casilda in the Argentine province of Santa Fe.

Both Maxi and Ariel were playing in the regional Liga Casildense tournament before their death.
While Ariel featured for Huracán Maxi was with Atlético.
Barcelona releases statement following Maxi's death
"We are shaken by the death of Maxi Rolon (born in 1995), youth player at FC Barcelona between 2010 and 2016.
"We express our deepest sympathies and total support for his family. Rest in peace," Barcelona affirmed in a statement published on Twitter.
Maxi Rolon's career at Barcelona's B team
Rolon represented Barcelona's second team where he played 24 times, scoring two goals before moving on to several clubs in South America and the Middle East.
After leaving the Catalan club, the Argentine went on to play for Brazilian giants Santos before moving back to Spain with Lugo, while his career also took him to clubs in his native Argentina, Ecuador and Chile as well as Iraq, where he represented Al Diwaniya.
He also played for Argentina in the 2015 Under-20 South American Championship triumph and subsequent World Cup alongside brother Leonardo, who is currently at Chile's Deportes Iquique.
Another rising football star dies
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Stanford women have confirmed that the team's goalkeeper, Katie Meyer has passed away at the age of 22.
Katie who doubles as the team's captain was said to have been found at her on-campus residence in the university says authorities the Mirror reports.
The 22-year-old is a senior studying international relations and history at Stanford University and has been combining football perfectly with her studies.
Meyer's death comes as a rude shock to the football community as the 22-year-old was instrumental in guiding Stanford women's soccer team to its 2019 national championship.
Meyer had twice been the women's soccer team captain and had twice made it to the Pacific-12 Conference's honour roll.
