Fofana speaks on Fernandez’s video

Speaking in an interview reported by Mail Sport, the 23-year-old French defender commented on the situation:

“Enzo Fernández has apologised. He never intended to offend French fans or anyone else.”
“He didn’t fully understand the implications when he sang it, but I trust him. I know him well. I know Enzo.”
“He is not racist.”

Discussing their relationship further, the former Leicester City man added:

“I’m pleased to see Enzo back. We play together, and it’s important for us to stay united. We’re stronger together.”

The major talking point was a viral video posted on Fernandez's Instagram page rendering a song from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which seems offensive to French players.

The viral video earned the former Benfica midfielder a global condemnation, and his Chelsea teammate, a French international, Wesley Fofana, also joined the fans in criticising the Argentine.
