Lionel Messi continues to rewrite football history with every appearance he makes on the field.
The mercurial Argentine has risen from the ashes of battling a growth hormone deficiency to becoming one of the greatest, if not the greatest, players to ever grace the game.

Nonetheless, taking a look at Messi's historic career, Argentine assistant coach, Pablo Aimar, has touched on what he believes remains the forward’s motivation to continue excelling despite his age and numerous achievements.
Aimar speaks on Lionel Messi's motivation
In a recent interview shared on social media by Football Tweets, the 44-year-old compared Lionel Messi's motivation and drive to that of iconic basketball player, Michael Jordan.
The former Valencia star explained that Messi's enduring strength seems to be driven by the desire to impress the fans who may yet never witness his greatness again.
“Michael Jordan once said he played every game as if there was someone in the crowd who would see him just that once. It seems to me that Leo plays with the thought of the person who might never see him again.”
According to data from Fotmob, Messi's career has seen him achieve over 1,000 goal involvements, making him one of the few players in football history to do so.
The Argentine maestro is also the most decorated football player in history, boasting a record 45 career titles.
Messi chooses 2024 Ballon d'Or favourites
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Messi has backed Real Madrid duo, Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe as the frontrunners for the 2024 Ballon d’Or award but has excluded Jude Bellingham from the race.
The England midfielder, who had a stellar debut season with Real Madrid, is expected to provide stiff competition to whoever is in the running for the prize.
The Ballon d’Or, which both Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi have largely dominated over the last decade, saw the Argentina captain add another to his record-extending accolade following his triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
