However, amid the Federation's indecision, the versatile forward has taken to social media to address the incident for the first time.

Nunez breaks silence after Copa America brawl

Ahead of his return to Liverpool for the new season, Nunez took to social media to reflect on his Copa America campaign.

The 25-year-old did not address the unsavoury incident against Colombia.

On his X account, the forward shared a photo of himself in the Uruguayan jersey, along with the message:

"My first Copa America. Sad for not having made it to the final, happy for what we experienced, what we learned, and what we shared. This continues, let's go Uruguay always!"

Nunez is set to receive an extended break before joining up with Arne Slot at Liverpool for his third season at the club, following his £85 million transfer in the summer of 2022.

The forward, expected to become even more integral in Liverpool's new setup, recorded an impressive 31 goal involvements in 54 appearances for the Premier League outfit during the 2023/24 season.

Nunez consoles son after altercation with fans

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Nunez was captured in tears in the early hours as he consoled his son after Uruguay's loss to Colombia in the semi-final of the Copa America.

The Liverpool forward was at the centre of the heated scuffle between the Uruguay players and Colombia fans in the stands after the Copa America semi-final.

Chaos ensued after the final whistle was blown by the centre referee, with the former Benfica striker confronting Colombia fans and his family members close to where the disorderly incident broke out.
