Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed that he simply wanted to purchase Premier League giants Arsenal for business reasons, The Cable reports.

The former Abia state governor had in the past shown keen interest in buying the Emirates outfit and did not hide the fact that he wanted to generate massive revenue from the north London club.

The chief whip in the senate was quoted by The Cable while addressing journalists:

“I wanted to use Arsenal to make money. Because it is a business. Honestly, I am not an Arsenal fan.
“I put a bill before for them to sell the club but they were not serious in selling the club. I pray that they will listen to the words of nature.
“I sent them a bid and interest, and just replied me that they will get back to me.
“I think this is what the problem is. We were serious. Backed up with one of the biggest bank in America to do this bid.”

The 60-year-old who is worth $1billion was a huge financier of Enyimba and the Abia based side won Nigerian league titles and won a back-to-back CAF Champions League trophies.

In November 2020, the business mogul publicly declared his intention to purchase a 35 percent stake in Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Aliko Dangote has never hidden his ambitions in buying Premier League giants Arsenal and is looking like its going to come through.

The Gunners were among the six English clubs that joined the European Super League but all have withdrawn their interests and fans are now asking questions about owner Stan Kroenke's credibility.

The north London faithful have been asking questions about how the team have fared in recent years and the mode of spending on the first team.
