French football referee Stephanie Frappart has once again written her name in history books of the round leather by becoming the first woman to officiate a World Cup qualifying game.
The 37-year-old landed the great achievement on Saturday, March 27, during the World Cup qualifier between Netherlands and Latvia.
Netherlands started the match impressively, but they had to wait until the 32nd minute before scoring the first goal of the encounter through Steven Berghuis.
Latvia tried all their best to make sure that they restore parity before the end of the first half, but they were unable to break Netherlands defense in the tough encounter.
They continued with their efforts in the second half against Netherlands who will have their goalkeeper to thank for impressive saves.
Luuk de Jong scored the second and winning goal for Netherlands in the 69th minute for the match to end in a 2-0 defeat for Latvia.
Earlier this season Stephanie Frappart became the first female to take charge of a Champions League match, when Juventus faced Dynamo Kiev in December.
She is also the first female referee to have overseen a major men's European final when she took charge of the UEFA Super Cup clash between Liverpool and Chelsea in September, 2019.
