Lampard has come under fire in recent weeks after leading the Blues to a poor run of form which has seen them plummet to ninth on the league standings.

The west London side have picked just one win seven of their last fixtures in all competitions sparking speculation the Englishman could earn the sack.

Whereas Chelsea are believed to be ready to afford him some more time, Metro UK reports the club's hierarchy has already drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements should they resolve to axe Lampard.

According to the publication citing Daily Mail, Hasenhuttl is under serious consideration for the Stamford Bridge role.

Hasenhuttl rose to prominence this season following a remarkable start to the campaign with Southampton.

So spectacular the Saints have been, that at one time they went top on the Premier League standings.

The St Marys-based outfit currently occupy sixth place with 29 points, on level with fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Apart from Hasenhuttl, there are also some other high profile names being considered, including RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Thomas Tuchel, who was recently sacked by Paris Saint-Germain is also thought to be in the frame to replace Lampard alongside Ralf Rangnick.

Defeat to struggling Fulham on Friday, January 17, is expected to pile more pressure on the Blues legend who splashed more than £250 million in the summer to sign an array of players.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl was on Monday, December 4, overwhelmed with emotion after his side dealt Liverpool a huge blow with a narrow 1-0 win at Saint Marys’.

Moments after the final whistle, Ralph Hasenhuttl went on his knees in tears at winning against someone he considers a role model; Jurgen Klopp.

A clever chip from Danny Ings as early as the second minute of the game proved to be the decisive moment as some heroic Southampton defending coupled with lackluster performances from the Reds at times ensured all three points went to the hosts.
