Former Liverpool striker El Hadji Diouf has been appointed as the sporting director of Senegalese second-tier side Guediawaye FC.
The club made the announcement that the two-time Africa footballer of the year’s task is to help the club in his capacity to gain promotion to the top flight.
At 39, Diouf who was a controversial figure during his playing days has continued to work within the football circle, although in an ambassadorial capacity.
He retired in 2015 having had spells with several clubs including Liverpool, Sunderland, Bolton, Blackburn, Leeds United, Rangers and Doncaster.
He also had stints with some clubs in France before he officially hung his boots in 2015 as he finished his career with Malaysian side Sabah FC.
The club communication's chief Malick Sy told Lesolei.sn via Daily Mail.
“We have new mechanisms in place to move forward, with a management team, a college for the management of the club.
“In the college, the novelty is the creation of a position of sportsdirector for which we negotiated and obtained the appointment of El Hadj Ousseynou Diouf.”
Only recently, Liverpool star Sadio Mane named Diouf as his favorite player he grew up watching in the game of football.
Mane stated this while answering a question in an interview where the likes of Daniel Amokachi, Kanu Nwankwo and El Hadji Diouf were with him.
A reported bumped into the stars and asked Mane to pick his favourite of the three legends, with the star choosing his compatriot.

Diouf was named Africa’s best on two occasions having won the prestigious award in 2001 and 2002.
He was part of the Senegalese team that reached the quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup in 2002 where they defeated France in the opening fixture of the tournament.
The Teranga lions were knocked out of the tournament by Turkey in the extra-time following an Ilhan Mansiz strike.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported former Senegalese international Guirane N'Daw has admitted that he had to reduce his age in a bid to play professional football in Europe.
The former Saint-Etienne defensive midfielder claimed that about 99 percent of footballers in his home country have reduced their age before registering for football professional career.
The ex-Birmingham of England and Real Zaragoza of Spain player also played spent six years at Ligue 2 club Sochaus after joining them in 2002 before he moved to Nantes.
