The Belgian spotted him sprinting into the opponent's danger zone before delivering a precise pass as athe Englishman sent the ball into the left bottom corner of the post.

It was a counter-attacking move for the home team who broke the attack from the Cottagers and used the opportunity in their favour.

Guardiola's men doubled their lead just from minutes before the half-hour mark from the penalty spot after Sterling was fouled in the danger zone.

The 25-year-old was trying to create space for himself in the opponents' 18-yard box but he was brought down by Joachim Andersen.

And De Bruyne stepped up to score a superb spot-kick as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way in the 26th minute.

All other efforts from both sides for the rest of the game however returned unfruitful as the Citizens ran off with the 2-0 triumph.

Meanwhile, they have a match in hand and they will hope they can convert that also to three points in a bid to close the gap a little more on the teams occupying the summit of the log.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Real Madrid managed a 1-0 win away from home as they defeated Sevila right at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in their Match Day 12 of the La Liga season.

Los Blancos began asking questions as early as the 5th minute when Casemiro had a long range effort with a right footed strike which drifted wide as Benzema almost capataised on a goalkeeper Bounou error.

Both teams did so much to contain eachother in the first half and the visitors came close yet again the 36th minute following a save from Bounou as he got a hand to a fine Benzema strike that was destined to nestle in the corner of the Sevilla net.
