Taiwo Awoniyi: German club Mainz confirm Nigerian star is recovering at hospital

Taiwo Awoniyi is said to be recovering at the hospital after he was stretchered-off during Mainz’ clash with Ausburg in the German Bundesliga on Sunday, June 14.
The Liverpool loanee was hospitalised following a nasty with German-born of Nigerian descent Felix Uduokhai which left him unconsious.
It was a clash of heads which resulted in a nasty fall for Awoniyi who was immediately attended to by medical staff on ground.

After a few minutes' delay, the 22-year-old had a brace put on his neck as the forward was taken off the pitch and straight to the hospital.

The German club have confirmed that the Nigerian U23 international is now responding to treatment at the hospital.
"Taiwo Awoniyi sends his thanks to the Mainz medical staff and those at @UnimedizinM, as well as to his teammates,” the club wrote on Monday.
Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015 and has been unable to secure a work-permit in the UK which led him to spells in Germany, Holland and Belgium.
The Nigerian forward earlier disclosed that his parent club Liverpool have handed him 24-month deadline to resolve his work permit issues.
According to the Nation’s SportingLife report, Awoniyi, who was in action for Nigeria against Sudan in AFCON U-23 qualifiers in 2019 noted that Reds manager Jurgen Klopp also played a huge part, on his current loan spell at German Bundesliga campaigners Mainz 05.
At the last count, since signing for Liverpool in 2015, Awoniyi has had sixth loan stints at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Mouscron (2) and KAA Gent.

However, ahead of the start of the 2019-20 campaign, Klopp, who was at Mainz for 18 years in different capacities has urged the former Golden Eaglets star he expects him to secure his British work permit in two years if he truly wants to be a part of the Premier League side.
