Quique Setien: Barcelona boss blames players after 2-0 Valencia loss

- Quique Setien has blamed his players after an embarrassing defeat to Valencia

- Barcelona got a brilliant start but suffered a 2-0 loss thanks to Maxi Gomez's second-half brace

- The new Barcelona manager attributed the defeat to his side's refusal to yield to instruction

Quique Setien has questioned his players' mentality after Barcelona suffered an embarrassing 2-1 La Liga defeat to Valencia on Saturday, January 25 - the first loss for the new manager.

Barcelona were the favourites to win the game after a beautiful start but Maxi Gomez's second-half brace was the magic needed to condemn La Blaugrana to their fourth defeat in La Liga.

Setien has now risked the wrath of his senior players including Lionel Messi after the Spaniard manager blamed the loss on his stars, saying the defeat was because his players failed to listen to instruction.

''The truth is we were not very good. They are still not understanding things or perhaps we are not explaining them well.'' Setien said after the game.

''Especially in the first half. We could not find a way to break them down. There were things that we have not understood properly and Valencia took advantage of our errors.''

Quique Setien was brought into the helm as the new boss after the sacking of Ernesto Valverde.

The Spaniard manager was given the marching orders out of Camp Nou by Barcelona on Tuesday night, January 14, bringing to a sudden halt his reign as the boss of the Spanish giants.

Setien's first game was at home against Granada, and the team only managed to grab a narrow win despite over 1,000 passes.

Barcelona were saved from a messy day all thanks to Messi's messianic 76th-minute strike that made the difference of the encounter.

Barcelona are still the leaders on the La Liga table though with goal difference with Real Madrid who are second on the log.

Meanwhile, Legit.g had reported that Barcelona reportedly stopped their players from going hard on their superstar Lionel Messi at the training sessions in order to keep the Argentine off injury risk, Jean-Clair Todibo has revealed.

Messi is Camp Nou's most important figure and Barcelona new manager Quique Setien will need his messianic presence in the coming La Liga encounters.
