The Taiwanese's victory on Friday follows a similar controversy from Thursday, when Algeria’s Imane Khelif also faced scrutiny regarding gender identity, sparking widespread debate on social media.

According to a report from NBC News, both Lin and Khelif's participation in women’s boxing at the Olympics has incited global outrage.
This follows reports that they failed gender eligibility tests at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi in 2023, allegedly due to having excessive male chromosomes.
In a now-viral video on social media, the 28-year-old Lin who made light work of her Uzbekistan counterpart in their fight for a place in the quarter final of the Paris event, has sparked several reactions across social media.

IOC defends Algerian boxer Imane Khelif
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit issued a joint statement in defence of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif following her controversial victory.
They emphasised that all athletes at the Games, including Khelif, met the competition's strict eligibility and medical regulations.
While the statement did not name the Algerian directly, it addressed the swirling misinformation surrounding her gender.
