Paris Olympics: Noah Lyles Withdraws From Relays After Winning 200m Bronze

• Noah Lyles has announced that his Olympic Games are over after he won a bronze medal in the 200m final
• Botswana's Letsile Tebogo beat the American, but it later emerged that the 100m champion competed with Covid-19
• The 27-year-old was expected to anchor the USA in the men's 4x100m relays final, but he won't be available

Noah Lyles's Olympic Games are over. The American sprinter will not take part in the Games after it emerged he won the bronze medal in the 200m with Covid-19.

Lyles was upset by Botswana's Letsile Tebogo, who bagged the gold medal, but the American heads home with a gold in the 100m.

The USA are favourites to win the men's 4x100m relays tonight, but Lyles won't be anchoring the team.

The 27-year-old didn't run in the first heat which USA won in 37.47 seconds. Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Kyree King and Courtney Lindsey represented the USA in the heats.

After the 200m final, it was disclosed that Lyles had contracted Covid-19, which earned him a yellow card for improper conduct.

"I was going to compete regardless," Lyles said via USA Today. "If I didn’t make it to the finals, that would’ve been the sign not to compete."

"To be honest, I’m more proud of myself than anything – coming out and getting a bronze medal with COVID," he added.

Last weekend, he won the 100m gold medal after beating Jamaica's Kishane Thompson by five-thousandths of a second.

Lyles pulls out of Olympics

After the 200m final, the sprinter immediately sat on a chair and was helped off the track in a wheelchair. He later shared that his Olympic Games are over via his Instagram.

“I believe this will be the end of my 2024 Olympics. It is not the Olympics I dreamed of but it has left me with so much Joy in my heart. I hope everyone enjoyed the show. Whether you were rooting for me or against me, you have to admit you watched, didn’t you?”

Nevertheless, Lyles won his first Olympic gold medal after a miserable 2021 Games in Tokyo.

He will be cheering the USA relay team from the couch as they seek to win their first gold medal since 2000, per the New York Times.

Lyles congratulates Tebogo after 200m race

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Noah Lyles has congratulated Letsile Tebogo after beating him in the 200m final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Botswana sprinter surprised the whole world as he beat the 200m race favourites to the gold, being the first African to do so.

The 21-year-old cleared the two Americans with a time of 19.46s, which is an African record. Lyles finished third with 19.70, with his compatriot Kenneth Bednarek crossing the line in 19.62s.
