However, fans never witnessed some of their favourite athletes compete in Paris because of injuries and illness.

Noah Lyles is the latest athlete to withdraw from the Olympics due to Covid-19. The American was expected to win his second gold medal in the 200m but was beaten by Letsile Tebogo.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce

The Jamaican sprint legend ran in the first round and then withdrew abruptly just before the semi-final. She was aiming to win three gold medals in the women's 100m to add to her 2008 and 2012 crowns. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games were her last, and it remains to be seen what Fraser-Pryce does in her career after Paris.

Shericka Jackson

Another Jamaican superstar couldn't compete because of injury. Jackson was in the Olympic Village, and she withdrew from the 100m before she was listed as DNS in the 200m (Did Not Start). Jackson was chasing the world record in the women's 200m and her first Olympic gold medal but will have to wait until 2028.

The world bronze medalist from Great Britain finished sixth in the third semi-final of the 100m and failed to advance to the final. Days later, he pulled out of the 200m heats due to a hamstring issue, per The Independent. he also skipped the European and British championships with a hamstring injury.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo

Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo is another superstar aiming to defend her title at the Olympics, but injuries prevented her. The 400m will get a new champion after she finished last in the repechage after struggling with injury.

Miller-Uibo was chasing her third straight gold medal in the distance, but it was clear she wasn't in the best shape after walking in the race in the first round, per Olympics.com.

Lyles congratulates Tebogo after 200m win

In another publication, Legit.ng reported that Noah Lyles has congratulated Letsile Tebogo after beating him in the 200m final at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Botswana sprinter surprised the whole world as he beat the 200m race favourites to the gold, being the first African to do so.

The 21-year-old cleared the two Americans with a time of 19.46s, which is an African record. Lyles finished third with 19.70, with his compatriot Kenneth Bednarek crossing the line in 19.62s.
