Golden Girl: Blessing Okagbare Wins Second Gold In Glasgow
Sensational Nigerian runner Blessing Okagbare has doubled her tally of gold medals in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The 25-year-old got another gold in the female 200 metres event in 22.25 seconds tearing away from the pack with blistering speed.
An obviously excited Okagbare told reporters: "It's amazing, I feel extremely blessed, it's not easy to get a medal so it is something to celebrate.
Despite winning the gold, Okagbare was sad she couldn't get under the sub-22 second club like her American compatriot and Olympic champion, Allyson Felix.
"I wanted to run faster, honestly," she said. "I went out in the final and I did not celebrate like I did in the 100 because I saw the time and was a little disappointed.
"I had to balance the weather and two runs in the 200 is just really, really hard. I don’t know why they did that schedule.
"If we had another extra day of 24 hours rest and came back then I would have been able to run faster because I think I`m actually ready to do under 22 seconds."
Okagbare had won the 100 metres gold a couple of days ago and is also a specialist in the long jump.
She won Nigeria an Olympic bronze medal and will be aiming to complete the games with another gold as she also participates in the 4x100 relay.
