Max Verstappen won a fourth consecutive Formula 1 title despite finishing fifth in the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Sunday morning.

The Dutchman added another feather to his growing cap with two races to spare after getting an unassailable lead at the top of the standings.

How max Verstappen won the 2024 Formula 1 title

Heading into Sin City, Verstappen needed to better Lando Norris' position to be declared the champion. The McLaren driver has pushed Verstappen all the way this season, but after finishing sixth in Sao Paulo last time out, the title slipped away from his grasp.

What did Max Verstappen say after winning the 2024 title?

Verstappen could only manage a fifth-place finish in Las Vegas behind Mercedes duo George Rusell and Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari pair Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. However, it was enough, given that Norris finished behind him.

"Oh my God,’ he whimpered. ‘What a season. Four times. Thanks to everyone. More difficult than last year. I thought it was impossible. But thanks to you guys… Thanks again," said a tearful Verstappen at the end of the race, as quoted by Daily Mail.

How much will Max Verstappen get for winning 2024 F1 title?

Surprisingly and on the face of it, nothing. As explained on Formula 1's website, championship winners do not get prize money. They are, however, likely to receive a handsome bonus on top of their salaries, paid by their teams depending on how the contracts were negotiated.

Verstappen's salary at the moment is 55 million USD (approximately 7.1 Billion Kenya shillings) for the year 2024.

Prize money is only handed out to teams based on their finishes in the constructors championships. The money comes from TV rights, sponsorship deals, and other revenues.

How much did Red Bull Racing Honda RBPT win in 2023?

Motor Sport Magazine reports that Red Bull won an estimated 140 million USD last year for winning the constructors championships, while Haas Ferrari, who finished 10th, got 60 million USD.

2024 Formula 1 constructors championship standings

The championship race might be done and dusted, but there is still much to do in the constructors race this year. McLaren leads at the moment with 608 points ahead of Ferrari's 584. Red Bull is third with 555.

How many races remain in Formula 1?

After Vegas, only two races remain to end the season: the Qatar Grand Prix on December 1 and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit a week later.
