Mark Blundell: Former McLaren Driver Speaks on the Formula 1 Grid Challenging Red Bull Racing

  • Red Bull Racing have been dominant since the shift to the ground-effect era
  • The Milton Keynes team have won all but seven races since the rule change
  • An ex-McClaren driver spoke on the remainder of the grid, challenging Red Bull

The unprecedented dominance that Red Bull Racing currently exerts over the Formula 1 grid is nothing short of remarkable.

In the sport's 74-year history, no team has achieved the level of success that the Milton Keynes-based outfit has attained in such a brief span of time.

During the 2022 season, Red Bull triumphed in all but four of the 22 races. In 2023, they elevated their performance even further, winning every race except the Singapore Grand Prix.

The 2024 season has started in a similar vein, with Red Bull securing dominant victories in two out of the three races held thus far.

This remarkable streak of victories has prompted many to question whether any team is currently capable of challenging Red Bull. The latest to weigh in on the Milton Keynes team is former F1 driver, Mark Blundell.

In an interview captured by Sports Brief, the former McLaren driver discussed the prospect of any team challenging Red Bull's dominance.

Blundell on Red Bull’s dominance

Speaking about the Austrian team's dominance, Blundell remarked:

"I don't think anyone will challenge them much. It seems more like others will try to catch up. Maybe luck or changing conditions could make a difference."

Stressing further on how he would have loved to have the current grid bunch up, the 57-year-old continued:

"It would be nice to see Ferrari, McLaren, and Aston Martin making progress. However, I don't think any team is close to challenging Red Bull's position on the grid or the race results. I could be wrong, but based on what we've seen last year and this year, it seems like Red Bull will continue to dominate."

It is widely speculated that it might take until the 2026 regulations before any team could mount a serious challenge against Red Bull.
