It’s Time to Vote your Favourite Local League Club into Naija Super 8!
You must have heard about the glory days of the Nigerian local league. The times when stadiums were filled to the brim with enthusiastic fans cheering legendary players like Teslim Balogun, Mutiu Adepoju, and Segun Odegbami, among others.
The excitement is coming back! Flykite Productions, a leading sports events company, has introduced Naija Super 8 tournament to bring back the stadium culture of the golden era to Nigerian club football.
Eight clubs, currently competing in the Nigerian Professional Football League and the Nigerian National League, will make history by debuting in the premiere edition of the Naija Super 8 tournament and they will rival each other for monetary prizes worth over N100 million.
But they cannot get a shot at this tournament without you. Yes, football is nothing without the fans and this is why the organisers of the Naija Super 8 are placing the ultimate selection power in your hand. The voting portals will be open from Monday, April 10 - Friday, May 12.
All you have to do is vote either through the Naija Super 8 website, the mobile site, or via the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps. You get to choose from a shortlist of clubs from the six regions in Nigeria. From there, you can vote for your beloved local club that will participate in the playoffs scheduled to hold at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo from July 1 – 3, 2023
If you choose to vote through the Naija Super 8 website or mobile site, each vote tallies 100. Active DStv or GOtv subscribers have the additional privilege of voting from either the MyDStv or MyGOtv app. Votes will be allocated to active subscribers based on their current subscription package.
DStv Premium subscribers will get 2500 extra votes, DStv Compact Plus subscribers will get 1500 extra votes, DStv Compact subscribers will get 750 extra votes, DStv Confam/Family subscribers will get 500 extra votes and DStv Yanga/Access subscribers will get 200 extra votes.
For GOtv subscribers, Jolli subscribers will get 200 extra votes, Max subscribers will get 350 extra votes, and Supa subscribers will get 500 extra votes.
When voting closes, renowned audit firm, Deloitte Nigeria, will collate the votes cast and announce the top-ranking teams from each of the regions. After that, the twelve teams elected from the regions will challenge each other via a play-off to secure six available slots in the tournament. The two remaining slots will be chosen via a non-voting wildcard by the organisers.
The tournament will hold during the football off-season between June 17-25. This means you would not have to wait for the beginning of a new season to enjoy the thrill of football, instead, you will get to witness in person the ecstasy that comes with associating with a winning local club.
