The Netherlands international was said to have been offered a deal he could not reject before dumping his initial move to the Camp Nou despite scheduling his medical with them already.
Mauricio Pochettino was also said to have played a key role in the player dumping his proposed move to the Catalan club according to The Guardian and Football 365.
Meanwhile, the Parisians are still interested in signing Moise Kean on a permanent deal from Everton having scored 13 goals in 26 Ligue 1 games while on loan with them last campaign.
The Toffees on the other hand will not make any decision on the forward's future until they have appointed a new manager who will take over from Carlo Ancelotti as reported by the publication.
However, Barcelona have stepped up their bid with an improved deal for Memphis Depay after missing out on Wijnaldum's move.
The former Manchester United forward will become a free agent once his deal with Lyon elapses this month. He is expected to join the likes of Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Emerson Royal at Camp Nou.
Barcelona edge closer to Memphis Depay deal
Legit.ng earlier reported that Barcelona's recruitment process in the transfer window this summer is top-notch having already completed the signing of a few quality players.
The Catalans have sealed a deal for stars like Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, and Emerson Royal, but they are not done fortifying their squad yet.
They are confident that Memphis Depay's deal will be announced early next week and his presentation to the media comes right after he must have signed a three-year deal.
