However, Messi has an unbeatable record his fiercest record Ronaldo will not be able to surpass as he gets closer to his retirement age.
1. Most consecutive Ballon d'Or awards
Only Luka Modric broke the ten-year monopoly of Ballon d'Or awards won by Ronaldo and Messi after the 2018 World Cup.
However, between 2009 and 2012, the Barcelona superstar won the prestigious accolade four consecutive times.
2. Most European Golden Shoe awards
Ronaldo has three Golden Boot awards compared to Messi's six and age is not on the Portuguese side any longer.
Polish star Robert Lewandowski won the 2020-21 season with 41 goals, Messi came second while Ronaldo's 29 puts him in third position. And at age 36, it is realistic that he may not attain that number of goals.

3. Most number goals for a single club
This season Messi beat Pele's long-standing record of 643 goals for Santos and now the one-cub man has 672.
Having played for Barcelona in his entire career Ronaldo does not come close to the achievement in anyway having played for clubs in Portugal, England, Spain and Italy.
4. Most goals in a calendar
Messi had an unbelievable season in 2012 and up till date no player has beaten his 91-goal record. He broke Gerd Muller's 85-goals record.
Ronaldo's best ever goal haul in a calendar year was 50 in the year 2017 and chances of hitting an incredible 91 set by Messi is not realistic.
5. Ballon d'Or wins
Another aspect of career achievement for Messi is the number of Ballon d'Or awards won by the 33-year-old, one better than Ronaldo's five.
Every year it becomes really clear that the Portugal has won his last biggest individual accolade. With the Euros and Copa America fast approaching, Ronaldo will most likely not be a candidate for the award.
