It is understood cops and West Ham have no idea how the thief sneaked into the heavily-guarded dressing room during the match.

Lingard's teammates and staff searched through the room for the watch, but their efforts were unfruitful forcing the forward to contact the police.

A source at West Ham divulged the incident left Lingard completely devastated.

“Jesse was devastated, but nobody can believe it. It’s completely unheard of for something to be stolen from inside the players’ dressing rooms during a game," the source said.
“Of course everyone has searched high and low but it appears it has definitely been taken, and there was no option but to call in the police. Everyone is gutted for him, he loved that watch and thought it would be safe," the source added.

Incidences of footballers losing prized possessions is not foreign in Europe, but Lingard's has left many puzzled.

Meanwhile, despite facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Lingard has since returned to Man United after the expiry of his loan deal at West Ham.

David Moyes, however, is understood to have prioritised the signing of the 28-year-old on a permanent transfer after he played a central role in helping his side secure a Europa League slot for next season.
