There have been suggestions the midfielder is a clear front-runner for the award owing to his sublime performances for Chelsea this season.

Kante has played an integral role in Thomas Tuchel's otherwise bright start to life at Stamford Bridge, with the former Leicester star cementing his place as one of the Blues' key squad members.

Initially, Kante was an injury doubt for Chelsea's Champions League final meeting with Man City, but managed to shake off his injury to make the starting XI of the Saturday night, May 29, cracker.

The France international went on to deliver another sublime display at the heart of Chelsea's midfield to win the Man of the Match award.

Metro UK now reports the Frenchman is already being tipped as an early contender to win the Ballon d'Or later in the year.

However, Kante has distanced himself from the speculation, noting Chelsea's success can be attributed to the entire team.

"The Man of the Match award is secondary. The main thing is the work of the whole group. It is pride and joy. We fought to qualify for the final. Today, we have suffered, we have the reward." he said.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Thomas Tuchel has reportedly told Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich that he wants a new contract with Chelsea after leading the club to Champions League glory.

Speaking after the match, the former PSG manager admitted the European glory may have earned him a new bumper deal with the Blues.

"I spoke to the owner right now on the pitch, I think it was the best moment for the first meeting, or the worst because from now on it can only get worse," Tuchel said.

"We will speak tomorrow, we will speak later, I’m looking forward to this, I can assure him I will stay hungry, that I want the next title and I feel absolutely happy," he added.
