David De Gea has taken to his official Instagram page to thank former coach Sir Alex Ferguson for his support in the Europa League final.

Despite retiring from management, Sir Alex Ferguson has been spotted many times showing his support for Manchester United in their games both in England and in Europe.

Sir Alex Ferguson was on Wednesday night, May 26, at the stands to watch his former club Manchester United in their Europa League final game against Villarreal.

But sadly Manchester United were unable to emerge champions in the competition losing on penalties to the Spanish side.

In the penalties, David De Gea tried all his best to at least save a kick, but he was unable to and even lost the decisive one that gave Villarreal the victory.

After the encounter, Alex Ferguson was spotted embracing David De Gea with some words while walking down the tunnel.

Those words made the Spanish goalkeeper happy and thanked the 79-year-old for his superb gesture.

''To fall and rise. Learn from the experience, fight again and win at Manchester United. Thanks for your support.''

David De Gea has been with Manchester United since 2011 and the Spaniard has featured in 339 games so far for the Red Devils.

Solskjaer was looking for his first piece of silverware but, against the odds, it was Villarreal who took the lead in the first half, leaving the Red Devils with the usual job of coming from behind for a win.

In all honesty, it was a game devoid of quality as only three shots on target were recorded throughout 120 minutes.

It was a thoroughly disappointing end to the game for Bruno Fernandes, who has been in scintillating form for Manchester United once again this season.

Videos of the Portuguese star have since emerged online showing the 26-year old being consoled by teammates with tears in his eyes.
