Former Liverpool and Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has announced he is coming out of retirement, two years after hanging his boots.
Torres called it quits from football in 2019 after a stint with Japanese side Sagan Tosu.
In recent months, however, the Spaniard has undergone a superb body transformation and has taken up boxing on the side.
His latest post on Instagram strongly suggested he was ready to dust off his boots and get back to the football pitch once again
The 37-year old shared a greyed-out photo of a number 9 shirt along with the caption, “"I only understand life in one way: playing. Therefore, I have decided to return. This Friday I will communicate where #returnsthechild #Ireturntoplay".
On the same year he joined Sagan Tosu, Torres had left Atletico Madrid after making a fairytale return to his boyhood club.
He rose through the Atletico Madrid youth system before joining Liverpool in 2007 where he enjoyed arguably his most prolific time as a striker.
For the Reds, he scored 81 goals in 142 appearances in four seasons before completing a controversial £50m move to rivals Chelsea in 2011.
He has over 100 caps for the Spain national team.
Since his retirement, Torres’ moves have always pointed to a football return as in recent months, he has been part of the rojiblanco academy where he has been assisting with the coaching.
